Raise your Beer, Toast A Hero: Jarett Yoder

Energetic. Laid back. Soldier. Aviator. Husband.

For those that knew Jarett, no doubt there are dozens more words that could be used to describe him. Those that knew him best remember his love for his family, passion for flying, and dedication to his country.

Today, we salute CW2 Jarett Yoder and his family in Pennsylvania.

Jarett first joined the Pennsylvania Army Nation Guard in 2005 and served over four years in the infantry, which included a year long deployment to Iraq in 2008/09.  Jarett's true dream, however, was to fly, which he did after completion of Warrant Officer Candidate School.

Jarett became an AH-64D pilot in 2010 and deployed with B Co. 1-104th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion to Afghanistan in December 2012. Jarett flew dozens of combat missions over some of the most hostile regions in Afghanistan. He gave his life while serving others on April 9th, 2013.

In the wake of tragedy, Jarett's wife Heather was determined to carry on her husband's legacy. In the spring of 2013, she created a memorial fund in his name. Since its founding, the Jarett Yoder Memorial Fund has carried on Jarett's memory by contributing to organizations that make an impact in the community.

The first recipient of a donation from the Jarett Yoder Memorial Fund was Puppies Behind Bars, an organization that supports wounded OIF/OEF veterans by providing them with service dogs. These dogs are trained by inmates who work with the puppies - an incredible way to provide opportunity and purpose for those seeking a second chance.

Since then, the Jarett Yoder Memorial Fund has provided donations to a number of other amazing organizations in honor of Jarett, including  Keystone Iron Warriors and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County among others. The Yoder's family efforts to continue to celebrate Jarett's life through giving are simply remarkable and serve as an inspiration to others.

Dog Tag Brewing Foundation is proud to support the Yoder family's efforts to honor Jarett's life as recipients of a 2016 Legacy Grant.

Heres to you, Jarett!
