CW3 Corey J. Goodnature
United States Army

3rd Battalion, TF 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne)

FEB 13, 1970 – JUN 28, 2005 | Kunar Province, Afghanistan

Hometown: Clarks Grove, MN

On June 28, 2005, a team of Navy SEALs came under intense fire in the rugged mountains of eastern Afghanistan. Hearing their urgent radio calls, the men assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment responded. Two aircraft departed their firebase with a SEAL security team. During landing, the lead aircraft was hit by Taliban fire and crashed on the mountainside below. All eight aircrew along with the eight fellow Navy SEALs were killed. CW3 Corey Goodnature was the Flight Lead Pilot of that aircraft. Corey and his fellow soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in an attempt to save others from harm. To honor Corey’s legacy, his family created the Corey Goodnature Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In their own words: “We want to show the world that goodwill always best evil. CW3 Goodnature died for a country he loved, he served his entire adult life in the military, he volunteered for the mission that day, knowing the risks. Our board feels strongly that as civilians it is our mission to carry on his name, by helping students to better themselves. If we have done our job correctly, they will then do the same.”

Dog Tag Legacy Fund is proud to provide grant funds that support this memorial scholarship fund in honor of CW3 Corey Goodnature.
