Steven was an avid video gamer and sports fan and could recite the stats for almost any player in any major sport. At 6ft 5in tall, he regularly dominated on the basketball court. Feeling the need to be a part of something bigger than himself, Steve left college to serve in the Army during a time of war. In order to honor their son’s legacy, his parents established the Steven R. Elrod Memorial Scholarship to aid in financing the education goals of students from his alma mater.

Steven R. Elrod Memorial Scholarship - Fayetteville, NC

The Steven R. Elrod Memorial Scholarship was created by his family for the purpose of making a college education accessible to students at Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville, NC, where Steven attended. Each year the winner is an academically successful student and selection is based on citizenship, leadership, financial need, and participation in extracurricular activities with an emphasis on basketball. These criteria, and other eligibility requirements, are in line with Steven's character and preserve his legacy.

Dog Tag Legacy Fund is proud to support this memorial scholarship in honor of Steven by providing grant funds that will continue Steven’s legacy of inspiring citizenship, leadership, and patriotism within his community.
